ASUS ROG Flow Z13 Review

ASUS ROG Flow Z13

We’re not going to talk about smartphones today. Instead, let’s take a look at ASUS ROG’s latest convertible Windows gaming laptop, the ASUS ROG Flow Z13.

It’s equipped with AMD’s latest high-end mobile processor from the Strix Halo Series. The only concern? The price tag. So, is it a better option than other gaming laptops out there? Let’s find out!

Design and Build

First, let’s talk about its design. The ASUS ROG Flow Z13 comes with pretty much everything ASUS has to offer.

The build quality is solid and sturdy, thanks to its all-metal chassis.

Despite its weight, it still gives off a premium feel — whether you’re using it as a laptop or a tablet.

At the back, it features a built-in kickstand that lets you prop it up like a laptop. You can also detach the display from the keyboard by simply pulling it apart.

One of my favorite features is the small transparent window on the back, which gives a peek into the laptop’s internals, and it even has RGB lighting, which is pretty cool.

As mentioned earlier, this device is quite heavy, weighing 1.23 kg without the keyboard and 1.62 kg with it. So if you’re planning to use it mainly as a tablet, it might take some time to get used to, especially if you’re accustomed to lighter tablets.

In terms of I/O, it comes with a USB 3.2 Type-A port, HDMI 2.1, a microSD card slot, a 3.5mm audio jack, and two USB-C ports that support DisplayPort and charging.

You also get a quad-speaker setup around the frame that supports Dolby Atmos.

Before we move on to the display, let’s quickly cover the keyboard. Like most laptop keyboards, this one has a fairly decent size.

My only issue is that the build quality feels a bit flimsy. However, it does have a magnetic strip that lets you either elevate the keyboard or lay it flat on a surface.

Display

As for the display, the ASUS ROG Flow Z13 features a 13.4-inch IPS touchscreen with a 2.5K resolution, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

It has a 16:10 aspect ratio and supports up to a 180Hz refresh rate — something we usually only see in full-fledged gaming laptops or monitors.

Since it’s an IPS panel, it delivers accurate colors, making it great for productivity tasks like video editing. And when it comes to watching movies or videos, the display quality is impressive.

The touchscreen is responsive, which is great, although I did find it a bit tricky to use at first due to the device’s weight.

Performance, Chipset, Storage

Now let’s talk performance. The ASUS ROG Flow Z13 is powered by AMD’s Ryzen AI Max 390 processor, featuring 12 cores, 24 threads, and 32 integrated graphics cores — all packed into a single architecture.

Typically, CPUs with integrated graphics don’t offer much GPU power, but that’s not the case here.

Whether for productivity or gaming, the Flow Z13 performed smoothly — especially when plugged in.

I don’t usually play AAA titles since my old PC couldn’t handle them, but games like Valorant and Genshin Impact ran without stutter or frame drops.

As for heat, yes, it does warm up, but since the internal components are on the back of the display, your hands stay cool while typing.

Battery and Charging

For battery, it has a 70Wh 4-cell Li-ion battery and comes with two charging options: a 100W USB-C charger and a 200W proprietary charger.

This is great for flexibility, especially if you’re on the go.

Price and Verdict

Overall, the ASUS ROG Flow Z13 is a premium device that delivers strong performance in a compact form factor.

However, it’s not for everyone, especially because of its price. At PHP175,995, whether used as a tablet or a laptop, it’s definitely a big investment. Still, considering its feature set and portability, it might just be worth it.

If you’re mainly into gaming, I’d recommend going for a traditional gaming laptop. But if you’re looking for an all-in-one device and budget isn’t an issue, then the ROG Flow Z13 is not a bad buy at all.
